A Loving Warning - The 5 Solas (2)

Two movements that I failed to mention that also are in opposition to the 5 solas would be the Emergent Movement and the Pentecostal Charasmatics. Now, my goal isn't to bad mouth or slam other denominations, but I believe that there are two important factors in signaling them out.

1. To warn our brothers and sisters in Christ of any dangerous teachings.
-protecting the flock (matthew 7:15, 1 Peter 5:1-9, 2 Peter 2:1-22)
-warning of false teachers was the reason why Paul wrote some of the epistles (Galatians, Colossians) and is urgently the first topic of discussion in the first letter to Timothy. He even names them by name. (2 Timothy 4:14-15)

2. To instruct on what these people believe in order to love them enough to give them an accurate picture of God and the gospel.
-winning people to Christ is the frontlines of the spiritual war. this war isn't against the people, but against the demonic forces holding them hostage in lies. training each other about these false teachings is preparing them for the weapons that the enemy is using in battle, when we lovingly evangelize.

Both the Emergent Movement and the Pentecostal Charasmatics reject the sufficiency of scripture.
This of course effects what they believe about salvation.

Most Emergents question truth in general, so it is no surprise that they question Sole Fide (Faith Alone Salvation). They have very close ties to the Catholic beliefs, and for some strange reason have very close ties to mystics and the new age movement.

Pentecostals believe that the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit to work through signs supercedes the truth of God's word. They also often believe that speaking in tongues MUST accompany salvation.

Remember... use this information as a tool to understand how their view of the truth is obstructed, and lovingly give them the truth of God's word. The gospel is the power of God for salvation. (Romans 1:16)
