Do Not Shut The Kingdom of Heaven

The sin of directing people away from Jesus and the sin of not directing people to Jesus may be slightly different, but the result is the same.

The Ugly Truth

Quick what is the most offensive thing someone at work can do?

Steal your stapler?

Show up 15 minutes late to a meeting?

Take credit for your work?

No silly, it’s showing up to work in a Hawaiian shirt.

I know business casual has not been clearly defined in the employee handbook but I c’mon that shirt is so errr…..uhhh…BRIGHT!

For arguments sakes it does have sleeves, collar, and it does button up, but c’mon it has flowers, tropical birds, and it’s so err…….BRIGHT! And on top of that it’s Wednesday couldn’t you have waited to wear it on Friday? Plus the fact that your blasting the best of Jimmy Buffet does not help your case.

Please someone talk to this guy. People are starting to file complaints at the HR office cause that shirt is so offensive.

Now telling someone that their shirt is ugly errr… I mean…uhh.. BRIGHT is not an easy task. Its has no other option that coming across as offensive. That’s why whoever tells him has to be as loving and tactful as possible to give him the uncompromised truth.

Evangelizing is very similar to this.

For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a slave to all, so that I may win more. …to the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak; I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some. 1 Cor 9:19 and 22

I am a firm believer in the fact that it is possible to be both loving and bold in our gospel presentation.

Telling an unbeliever that they are living an offensive life and need a savior has no other option that coming across as offensive. So we have two options. Beat them over the head with the Bible. Or befriend them and serve them so that by all means with the divine intervention of God, save some.

That's why it is our duty as Christians, to be aware of others cultures, customs, and emotions so when we boldly yes... boldly present them with the Gospel it is only God's word that confronts and convicts them. People have never gotten into heaven through someones clever gospel presentation. But it is your personality, honesty, and love that God uses as tools to rely his message.

I’m sure there are more tactful ways of telling some who wears Hawaiian shirts on Wednesday that their shirt is so hideou……err I mean ….obnoxiou……err I mean …oops….I mean unsightl…….uhhh I mean …BRIGHT!

Biblical Reflections On Homosexuality

The following is an excerpt from Al Mohler's chapter of Sex & The Supremacy Of Christ which was featured on the New Attitude Website:

As Christians, we are charged with the difficult task of compassionate truth-telling. This has never been easy—just ask the apostles—but it is particularly difficult in a time of cultural ferment and sexual revolution. Compassionate truth-telling requires the church to speak from its deepest convictions while demonstrating the love of Christ—speaking truth that will be heard as a hard message while demonstrating the love of Christ through the very act of telling the truth. Compassionate truth-telling means, not only the accurate presentation of biblical truth, but the prayerful and urgent hope that the individuals to whom we speak will be transformed by that truth and respond to the grace of God in Jesus Christ.

The challenge of compassionate truth-telling means that we must think strategically and carefully about how these issues should be addressed, both in terms of individual conversations and in the larger context of public debate. We must ensure not only that we think rightly about these things as ordered by Scripture, but that we speak rightly
about controversial issues as well. We cannot address homosexual marriage as an isolated issue but must place it in the larger context of the Christian worldview and of the great story of God’s purpose in creation and redemption.

Hostile Minds

Colossians 1:21 And you, who once were alienated and hostile in
mind, doing evil deeds...

Yesterday I had the wonderful opportunity to boast of Christ to some men who were hostile towards the Lord and His Word. I was at work looking for a guest to help but there were none at that time. One co-worker pointed out to another that I was a pastor. The 2nd gentlemen replied, "Oh, really." And the conversation started from there. Gentlemen #2 began to ask questions and state why he did not believe the Bible. Before I could reply to anything, Gentleman #3 jumped in and began to grind his axe as well. Sparks were flying everywhere and all I did was barely affirm that I had been a pastor for some time and studied the Bible most of my life.

With their axes sharpened they tried to tear down Christianity and the Word of God. I waited patiently for them to quiet down and I said, "If you like I can try to answer some of your questions. I have heard them before and I believe that Scripture offers reasonable responses to the objections you've raised. Now whether you believe them or accept them is another issue altogether. But I will tell you what the Bible says."

Their questions and statements ranged from: "Why would God order the slaughtering of babies?" "How is it fair for the native who's never heard of Jesus to be damned to hell?" "How do you know the Bible wasn't just written by men who had some great stories to tell?" I don't know about you, but I had never heard these tough questions...wink, wink.

In their hostility towards God they assumed that there were no valid explanations. I said, "Whoa! Let's slow down and try to answer them one at a time. You're asking some great questions and there are good answers to them. Let's start with the first one you mentioned." Knowing that some of these questions require some background and prior knowledge to answer them, I started at a place that they were not familiar with...God's holiness and hate for sin. But within a minute or two of the explanation they cut me off and said, "Get to the point." Seeing that their minds were set against God, my only hope was to continue declaring the Word of the Lord. I cast all confidence in my ability to persuade to the side and trusted in the Lord's Word which does not return void.

A fellow believer that was listening to the conversation later expressed to me that he was frustrated with their inability to listen to a Biblical response. They didn't really want answers. They really weren't seeking the truth. They just wanted to vent and grind their axes. Thank goodness the Word of the Lord is sharper than any man-made mental axe. Perhaps God penetrated a hard heart. I may never know.

But the one statement that clearly pointed to their spiritual blindness and natural ignorance had to do with the following Scripture. According to Gentleman #3, the follow Scripture was a clear indication of contradictions in the Word of God.

Matthew 5:38 [38] “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ [39] But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

There is a difference between law and grace. One requires that recompense be paid to the offended party. The other allows for graciousness, mercy and forgiveness. That is what the gospel is all about. They were straining to make a case against Scripture, when the Scripture they were so concerned about could have led them to find salvation from God's wrath in the mercy of Christ. Pray that the Holy Spirit regenerates these dead hearts.

Evangelism & The Doctrines Of Grace

Does rightly understading the doctrines of grace affect your understanding and method of evangelism?

look.

"When Jesus was traveling to Samaria, He met a woman getting water. She told the people in her town about Jesus. As the people from the town came out to meet him, He said to the disciples," :

"Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest. Already he who reaps is receiving wages, and is gathering fruit for life eternal; so that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. For in this case the saying is true, 'One sows, and another reaps.' I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labor." (John 4:35-38)

"The disciples were reaping the results of other people’s labor. Those people did not see all the result of their labor, but their efforts still bore fruit.

William Carey spent thirty-five years in India before he saw one convert. Some people think he led a fruitless life. But almost every convert in India to this day is fruit on his branch, because he translated the whole New Testament into many different Indian dialects. He was not the one to reap directly what he had sown, but his life’s legacy bore much fruit.

One of the most fulfilling experiences in life is to bear fruit for God. If it isn’t happening in your life, the reason is simple—you are not abiding in the Vine."

-John MacArthur

harvest time.

Matthew 9:36-38:

"Then He said to His disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.'"

the american church

It seems that the american church is easily blinded to the task at hand.
there are over 6,000 people groups in the world that have absolutely no access to the gospel whatsoever.
they do not have the gospel translated into their language.

yet

Revelation 5:9 says that there will be worshipers in heaven "from every tribe and language and people and nation".

and

Jesus said in matthew 24:14

"And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come."

and Paul declares what the strategy for this very task that is remaining is in romans 15:20-21

"and thus I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on someone else's foundation, but as it is written, Those who have never been told of him will see, and those who have never heard will understand."

then why is only .0001% going to the mission field. and why is only 4% of the .0001% going to the unreached?

there is a task remaining.

His fame, His name worshipped in every tribe, toungue, people, nation.

Fashion Police. Your'e under arrest.

the mirror.

Romans 3:20

"For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin."

Don't forget to use the mirror while witnessing.

Great Commission

Matthew 28:18-20

And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."

Christ commanded it, now lets be obedient.

daniel neiditch.

be in prayer for daniel. he is meeting tomorrow night with someone who he is looking to be involved with for full-time ministry with gangs. pray that God will give daniel:

1. wisdom
2. urgency
3. provision

Colossians 4:3-4

"And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should."

a heart for the lost.

Luke 19:41

"And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it,"

Like Christ, we should broken hearted over the lost. When we see this sinful world, our hearts should ache with compassion. We should use this sorrow to motivate us to share the Gospel.

Acts 17:16

"Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he saw that the city was full of idols."

"that he who can behold sin without sorrowful feelings has not the mind of the Spirit."

reaching the unreached.

If you have time, check out this interview with Access Partners. Their goal is reaching the unreached by helping missionaries not only get into restricted/dangerous countries, but also help them establish businesses to support themselves on the field.

Plant the seed

This Friday God gave me the opportunity to share the gospel with my doctor. She rejected it, but its OK because the seed is planted and God willing someone will water it and God will grow it. Can you guys just pray for her. Her name is Jeane. Its amazing how God opens the door and gives us opportunities if we ask him and if we are willing to share the good news. Praise God that he has in the past few weeks, given me the courage to share the gospel with several different people. We have to continue to pray and ask God to give us the courage and oppurunites to share the gospel. Scripture says that if we ask anything according to his will He will give it to us. I am positive that if we ask him for opportunities he will give them to us.

This week...

... has been amazing. I've had the courage to witness to more than one person which is an accomplishment for me.

Yesterday this girl was totally hitting on me. She told me that she wanted to get to know me, that I should tell her something about myself. So, I told her I was christian, and it just went on from there. It got more tough for me when I found out she was muslim. I didnt know what to say.....

Can you guys please pray that witnessing be a continuous thing for me, not only this week but for the rest of my life...

A Loving Warning - The 5 Solas (2)

Two movements that I failed to mention that also are in opposition to the 5 solas would be the Emergent Movement and the Pentecostal Charasmatics. Now, my goal isn't to bad mouth or slam other denominations, but I believe that there are two important factors in signaling them out.

1. To warn our brothers and sisters in Christ of any dangerous teachings.
-protecting the flock (matthew 7:15, 1 Peter 5:1-9, 2 Peter 2:1-22)
-warning of false teachers was the reason why Paul wrote some of the epistles (Galatians, Colossians) and is urgently the first topic of discussion in the first letter to Timothy. He even names them by name. (2 Timothy 4:14-15)

2. To instruct on what these people believe in order to love them enough to give them an accurate picture of God and the gospel.
-winning people to Christ is the frontlines of the spiritual war. this war isn't against the people, but against the demonic forces holding them hostage in lies. training each other about these false teachings is preparing them for the weapons that the enemy is using in battle, when we lovingly evangelize.

Both the Emergent Movement and the Pentecostal Charasmatics reject the sufficiency of scripture.
This of course effects what they believe about salvation.

Most Emergents question truth in general, so it is no surprise that they question Sole Fide (Faith Alone Salvation). They have very close ties to the Catholic beliefs, and for some strange reason have very close ties to mystics and the new age movement.

Pentecostals believe that the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit to work through signs supercedes the truth of God's word. They also often believe that speaking in tongues MUST accompany salvation.

Remember... use this information as a tool to understand how their view of the truth is obstructed, and lovingly give them the truth of God's word. The gospel is the power of God for salvation. (Romans 1:16)

Today Today Today Today

Today was christian club.

Brian taught, in my opinion, he was so/so. Just Kidding. Anyway, he taught on the cross and what image comes to mind when you see the cross. His main point was that Jesus loved us so much that he died for us. I know, preaching to the choir. At the end he had questions, and me being the handsome man that I am, I led one of the groups in discussion. The first question was a reiteration of the lessons main point. Uh, uh, oh yeah. Second question was

"What is your status with God? Are you adding to his suffering by turning down his most generous offer to pay for your cimes? Or are you more like the guy in court that Jesus is talking to?"

This is where my story begins. Many of the self-proclaiming christians said (I don't know if they were being fake with their answers) they felt that they were right in the middle. Immediately the Spirit reminded me of Revelation 3:15-16 which says

(15) "'I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! (16) So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth."

I told them to think, are you for God or not? You can't give God "part of the pie" you have to give Him "the whole pie"

At the bottom of the page of questions there was a suggestion to the leaders of the groups to witness if they felt the Spirit leading them to do so.

So I did.

To make a long story short, There was one kid, Josh, who felt convicted. He had never heard the parts of Matthew 5 that talk about murder and adultery associated with hate and lust. With this new knowledge of his previous murders, and now knowing he was lukewarm before God, he became afraid.

In fact, after about an hour, school had ended and he called me up saying, "BJ! Just the guy I wanted to talk to!" (I had Brian's cell phone) He wanted me to clarify the crimes against him in the court of heaven... he he... So I told him that I'd have a discussion with him tomorrow, explaining the things he needed to know, although I may not know everything.

Please pray that God will give me wisdom in telling him exactly what he needs to hear.

Can I get a witness...?

So, today I witnessed to a girl.

I didn't quite give her the good news, but I did help her see that if she continued going down the path she was going, that she wasn't going to go to heaven.

It started because she just told me that she was "religious" so I just asked her, " do you think you're going to heaven then?" and she said yes. So I asked her if I could ask her a couple of questions and so it started. It was cut short because her bus arrived but she had told me that based on her wrongdoing she would be going to hell. I told her we'd finish tomorrow.

It was so very weird for me to just ask her like that. Normally, I would be to afraid. I guess i was just so tired of passing up the chance to share the Gospel. Now I'm happy because I shared God's word! Yay! God is GOOD, ALL the time. ALL the time, God is GOOD!!

Fear of Man 2

Romans 8:31-35

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died--more than that, who was raised--who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?

We should not be afraid of what this world can do to us. Romans clearly says that because of Christ's death and resurrection, nothing can separate us from God's love. Not trials, not stress, not persecution, not hunger, not shame, not danger, and not even death. So why do continue to fear these things. Why do we fear what man can do to us when we know that because of Christ's blood we have God's love. Because of the amazing sacrifice Christ made, we owe him nothing less than everything. Because of Christ's sacrifice how can we let the fear of man stop us from doing what Christ has commanded us.

Matthew 28-18-20

And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."

We can not let the fear of what man can do to us stop us from doing what Christ has commanded us. Let this encourage you to hold fast to God's love and to no longer fear man.
